The journey continues… south to the Canaries

Well, here we go for the next part of the journey…

We arrived in Madeira on Tuesday afternoon… flights were great.. quick connections in both Toronto & Lisbon. Was amazing to see Madeira’s mountain peaks sticking out of the clouds!! Such a stunning island!!! After a quick stop at the supermarket to start provisioning we arrived at the boat in Calhetta marina about 8pm… tired, but happy to see Adiona waiting for us just as we left her!

So finally after 4 trips to the supermarket (the last one was only 1 bag and included ice cream, chocolate & sangria) we are ready to set sail for an overight sail to the Canary Islands. We picked up our 4^th crew member (David) who arrived yesterday afternoon, but we are “patiently” waiting for the airline to deliver his luggage… I spent the time making a batch of chili, spagetti sauce and hamburger patties, while Scott, Dave & Jason did a few minor “blue” preparations. As soon as that darn bag arrives we can head out. Winds are supposed to be about 15-20 knots downwind for a quick easy trip.

We are really going to miss this amazing little island… the stunning landscape and its beautiful people. We were delivered a bunch of local fruits from Christiano, a local photographer and whale watching tour operator from his mother’s garden. If you are in this area we highly recommend Christiano’s operation… he is very knowledgeable and it was our pleasure to meet him. Don’t wait too long.. he’s buying a sailboat soon and will be following whale migrations around the world.

Should be lots of whales & dolphins to spot on the trip down…
