Some Firsts, and a wild ride

This will be quick, as we don’t have good data coverage right now. Still trying to get the French sim card set up on my old phone to use as a wifi hotspot.

The last couple of days we set sail for the first time. The first day was pretty calm, and we combination sailed and motored to the Calanques. It was good conditions for taking the boat out for the first time. The second day was a bit different though. Sailing on to Hyres, the winds were steady at 20 to 25 knots, gusting up to 35 (for the non-sailors out there, that is pretty freakin windy – not quite storm strength, but still up there). We were sailing downwind with heavily reefed sails, and still were doing 15 knots (boat speed) surfing down the waves! Yeeeeeehaaaaawwwww…. that was quite a ride. The boat starts to vibrate at that speed. I have never been that fast on a big sailboat before. For reference, our 16ft hobie cat maxed out at about 18knots.

Oh, and a couple of dolphins were cruising in our bow wave for a while.
